Our Pastor

Keyon S. Payton is the Pastor of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Pontiac, Michigan. Because of its location and throughout its history, New Bethel is known as “the church on the hill that serves as a beacon of light for the city of Pontiac.” Since its birth, New Bethel has served the community and takes pride in its mission: “The Church That Glorifies God Through Soul Winning, and Service To The Community.”

Pastor Payton attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion/Philosophy, and was selected to travel to Italy, Portugal, and Spain as an International Ambassador. He then went on to attend Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, NJ where he was conferred the Master of Divinity degree. There, he was awarded for his outstanding achievements, recognized for his excellence in Homiletics and Urban Ministry, and selected to serve with a Ghanaian congregation in Ghana West Africa. Pastor Payton has served as an Associate Minister of the Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA; as Chapel Assistant at the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel, Atlanta. GA, as Interim Pastor at the Hillside and Valley Presbyterian Church, Orange, NJ; as well as an elementary teacher with the Orange, NJ Board of Education.

Under the leadership of Pastor Keyon S. Payton, New Bethel continues to serve its community but has now been thrust into an evolutionary movement of growth and has adopted a new vision, one that not only serves the community but the individual person; “To Build Up and Empower The Total Person Through The Study of God’s Word.” Although his vision remains parallel with the past, he visualizes New Bethel as being the church on the hill that people can see, and come to, bringing with them their families; a place where people can grow through the study of God’s word. This mission is also carried out through a variety of ministries that have been developed under his guidance, which not only empowers and prepares its members to become all that God wants them to be, but also one that proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The key focus in its services remain essentially based on learning the word of God and making it a part of daily living, and to praise and worship our Lord and Savior, JESUS CHRIST!
